In Tanzania, the Pastoral Women’s Council (PWC) has successfully trained and supported 853 Village Community Banks (VICOBA) groups, reaching over 25,000 women across Northern Tanzania. As a member of Africa Climate Justice Movement (ACJM), they were supported by Global Fund for Women (GFW).
By participating in VICOBAs, women experience a significant boost in self-confidence and leadership capacity. They break cycles of isolation and become active members of theircommunities. The act of saving and accessing loans has given them the means to start or scale up small businesses, invest in livestock and agriculture, pay for their children’s education, covermedical expenses, and so much more. These gains, beyond economic, bring deep and lasting social transformation.
As a member of the Africa Climate Justice Movement (ACJM), PWC receives support from the Global Fund for Women to implement its activities to support women’s engagement to become dynamic actors in advancing climate justice in Africa.
