REFEB mobilizes over 100 women for climate justice in Côte d’Ivoire

On December 6, 2024, in Côte d’Ivoire, the Réseau des Femmes Braves (REFEB) organized an awareness-raising parade for climate justice, mobilizing more than 100 women from the localities of Yapokro, Koffikro, Babadougou, N’Zikro Diatokro, Tiefidougou, Bonoua, and Aboisso.

In the Aboisso region, women are particularly vulnerable to the impacts of climate change due to their strong dependence on natural resources for their livelihoods. Primarily engaged in agriculture, they are severely affected by climate variability, which undermines their economic, social, and health security.

In response to this situation, REFEB called on women across the sub-region to demonstrate solidarity and collective action in order to build a sustainable and climate-resilient society. The parade aimed to mobilize rural communities to address climate change, protect the rights of people dependent on natural resources, and strengthen women’s leadership in local environmental and natural resource governance.

Throughout the procession, women shared powerful messages and collective resolutions, encouraging other women to actively engage alongside them. Marching through village streets with raised fists and accompanied by a marching band, they brought together men, women, and children around a shared call for climate justice.

The mobilization concluded with an awareness session on climate justice, encouraging each woman to become a guardian of nature, to defend the resources on which they depend, and to take concrete action to preserve them.

As a member of the Africa Climate Justice Movement (ACJM), REFEB receives support from the Global Fund for Women to implement its activities to support women’s engagement to become dynamic actors in advancing climate justice in Africa.
